Warm & Cozy Event

The Warm & Cozy Fundraiser is an annual benefit held each September to raise funds for the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center (SATC). This years’ event will be held from 6:00 - 9:00pm on Wednesday, September 26 at a charming home near Foster Park. The public is invited.

The Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center is a not for profit organization that provides medical forensic examinations to women, children and men who have been sexually assaulted. The services are available 24/7/365 days a year at no cost to the patients. Sexual assault has no boundaries - the youngest patient seen was 35 days and the oldest 94 years old.

The SATC is the recognized and credentialed provider for patients who have been victims of sexual assault in Northeast Indiana including Allen County and the 16 surrounding counties with an estimated population of 1.6 million people.

As a not for profit 501c3 the SATC relies on a mixture of private and public funding; including the Indiana Victim Crime Compensation Fund. Additional monies are raised through grants, fundraisers and tax deductible gifts from our community. The Warm & Cozy is the primary fundraiser to help offset costs related to victim needs not covered by grants; including salaries, operating costs and miscellaneous expenses.

The 6th Annual Warm & Cozy fundraising campaign is a lighthearted event held in a tranquil outdoor setting. Feel right at home with an evening of cozy campfires, comfort food, music, friends and a chance to bid on some fabulous auction items. Tickets are $50 each and will be available beginning April 1, 2018 through the day of the event. We hope you will join us for this wonderful opportunity to relax and give back!

2016 Warm & Cozy Event

On September 28th, 2016 we celebrated our 4th Warm & Cozy, and our 20th year of operation. The weather was less than warm and cozy, but we are so grateful to everyone who came out, and enjoyed the evening with us. There were many memories made, and lots of awareness brought to our community.  Thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket, and donated their time to help support our mission. Below is the speech that our Chief Nursing Officer Michelle Ditton gave at the 2016 Warm & Cozy event.

Our History

In the fall of 1994, two local emergency room nurses attended the 2nd annual International Association of Forensic Nurses Conference in Virginia.  It was there that they learned of the emerging specialty of Forensic Nursing.  While many areas within the field were presented, it was the specialty practice of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) that was the most intriguing to them and the specific multi-disciplinary team concept of a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) that was brought back to Indiana.  In the months that followed it became clear that many members of the community shared the common goal of providing the best medical forensic care to victims of sexual assault and on January 29, 1996 the doors to the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center were opened.

Not only was the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment center the first of its kind in Indiana, it was one of only 20 in the United States.  In its first year of operation, the SATC provided care to 123 adults and adolescents in and around Allen County who chose to report their crime of sexual assault.  In June of 2000 services were expanded to provide the same comprehensive care to children.  Early on our Forensic Nurses were pioneers in training and helping to establish other SART/SANE programs throughout the United States.  Additionally, our nurses worked with different agencies at a local, regional and state level to provide the medical expertise necessary to implement best forensic practice in areas of legislation, guidelines, policies, evidence collection, and healthcare.  Today, there are over 700 sexual assault treatment centers in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Our patients have increased three-fold and the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center continues to be one of the leading healthcare providers and educators for treating victims of sexual assault.  We are forensic nurses making a difference!
